Farewell Folksy

So, I've shut my Folksy shop down. Or at least I've de-listed all of my items and taken my Folksy button off this blog, I can't actually work out how to get rid of the shop - presumably it just hangs in the ether, all empty and sad until a server somewhere runs out of space.

I never sold anything, my stuff wasn't that good, and it was just annoying me. Folksy has a wonderful community of sellers, but the site itself is slow, looks dated, and has a squillion bugs that annoy the hell out of me. I think it was initially aimed at trendy young arts graduates who wanted to revolutionise the design world, but it's found itself populated by stay at home mums who love craft and want to make a little bit of money, and it doesn't quite know what to do with us all. Ho hum.

Onwards and upwards then? Sort of. I'm still thinking about making things to sell, but I haven't got much further than thinking. I've been dabbling with some more hand printed t-shirts for kids, but the results weren't satisfactory so I've really shelved the idea.

I need to get organised, sort my cupboard under the stairs 'studio' out, and start planning things properly. Although at the minute I feel like I need about 12 extra hours in the day in order to do that. I'm doing extra days at work most weeks, and Munchkin takes up a huge amount of time (although I love it that she does). Family pickled weasel goes on holiday in a couple of weeks time, so maybe I'll aim to start when we get back.

Anyhoo, to cheer myself up, I've bought this:

It's from A Cuppa Jewels over at Coriandr, which is where I'll set up shop when I get round to selling again. See, I'm still contributing to the British craft scene, albeit in a small way :)

Five From Folksy

Eeek, I've not blogged for aaaages! The pickled weasel family has been away for the weekend to see a poorly uncle, and we had a great time doing sunny things in lovely Kent. Munchkin even managed to do a bit of moving across a floor, even if it was shuffling on her bum backwards :)

Anyhoo, time for Five from Folksy. We also saw my cousin this weekend who has just fixed a date for his wedding, so I thought I'd use that as a theme. I have 3 weddings to go to this year - hooraaaaay! New dresses, getting drunk and dancing badly, some of my favourite things.

This unusual card from Under the Stair Studios would be a lovely keepsake.

These Lovebird Bowls from Prince Design UK would make a great wedding present.

I'm a bit of a sucker for cufflinks (mr pickled weasel has many pairs), and these ones from Nina Carolyn Jewellery would be perfect for a groom.

And for bridal hair, these flower pins from Claire's Crystal Classics.

Finally, these little gift boxes from Gooseberry Moon could be used for wedding favours.

Quick and easy crafting fix

I made this felt flower bobby pin last night, and it took all of 30 minutes to do, and most of that was faffing about trying to draw a flower shape as a template :) You can do it too, with instructions from Lupin Handmade.

Five From Folksy

I am feeling rather springy today, so here's my spring picks from Folksy. Enjoy!

This super cute pin from Posh Plushies will make brighten up any pin cushion!

An orange birdy - could you get any more springlike? This is from Kool Kooky Creatures.

This Superwash 4 ply sock yarn is called 'Spring Greens', and is by The Bear Necessities.

I'm meant to be economising at the moment, but I'm sorely tempted by this Lemon Viola Bobby Pin from Wychbury.

Finally, there's nothing more springy for me than a bunch of tulips. This linocut print from The Lapwing Printworks would mean you could look at a bit of spring all year round.

Five From Folksy

This is a feature I'll run every couple of weeks on a Sunday. There are lots of lovely talented peeps over at Folksy, and it's where I sell my stuff. Every fortnight I'll choose five of my favourite items based around a theme. Today is International Women's Day, and so I searched for 'Women' using the wizardy Folksy search engine, and then cherry-picked my favs. Enjoy!

This natural linen bag from raspberry is so simple, but really pretty.

iLEAiYE's Purple shrug is my kind of knitwear :) Soft, easy to fling on, and looks effortless.

This zine from Colouring Outside the Lines features the work of 10 female artists.

This deliciously light scarf from Alona Kemmett Textiles is perfect for spring.

And last but not least, this beautiful bracelet from Ali Bali Jewellery would be the perfect present for any woman to show how much she is appreciated (hint hint Mr. Pickled Weasel!)
