Mini me

Munchkin took this picture. No, really, she did! She'd been watching me take photos of Big Ted with a new bib I'd made, and decided she'd like to have a go herself. I had no idea she wanted to copy me, I just thought she wanted to play with him, but then she asked for the bib as well. I got an old one of hers, as I don't want sticky fingers on my stock, and then we put it on him.

Then she went and got one of her cardigans, and got me to put that on him as well. Then she asked for the camera :) She took the picture, I just held the camera for her and told her which button to press. Not bad for a 14 month old whose only form of communcation is pointing and babbling incoherently :D

Pillowcase skirt

Last night I finished a skirt I'd made from one of the 2nd hand pillowcases I bought on saturday. I'm really pleased with it - it was sooo quick and easy, even for a sewing pleb like me.

I used this tutorial from Leah Kramer, but made a few changes. I sewed the long tie for the drawstring properly, with right sides together, and then turned it inside out. I also did a LOT of satin stitch around the little eyelets were the drawstring comes through, as the fabric frays really easily.

My pillowcase had an evelopy flap at the bottom as well (where my skirt hem was), where you tuck it over the pillow to keep it neat, so I cut off the excess fabric and made the front seam the same as the back. I used some of the fabric to make my drawstring, but still have a bit left over. I *love* the print, so I might use it to revamp a tee.

Now I just need some sunshine to wear it!

Footnote: It was stupidly hard to try and take a photo of the skirt on without assistance. So instead of one good photo I've used lots of bad ones. As you can see, Munchkin made it into the frame when I was doing timed shots :D

Pretty in Pink

I went and did crafty things today, with very exciting results, but I can't tell you about it because I forgot to take photos this afternoon so it'll have to wait until tomorrow. I have a very dysfunctional relationship with the flash on my camera, and am convinced it dislikes me for no reason. It is always over-exposing pictures no matter what I try. So I'll have to wait for good old-fashioned daylight tomorrow to take some shots. In the meantime, here is a nice picture of a flower.

This is an Amaryllis I bought after Christmas, for something like 98p. It was one of those kits where you get a brown plastic pot and an uninspiring onion-like bulb. But I followed the instructions optimistically, and lo and behold it has turned into a very beautiful thing. The picture of the flower on the box was a bit more white and pink stripy, but I'm not complaining :)
